Fujitsu Expands its FM3 Family of 32-bit MCUs with New Versions Featuring High-Capacity Memory, Low-Pin-Count Packaging

April 25, 2013

MCUs based on ARM® core support a broad range of applications, bring FM3 family to a total of 570 products

SUNNYVALE, Calif., April 25, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Fujitsu Semiconductor America (FSA) today introduced new 32-bit RISC microcontrollers based on the ARM(®) Cortex(TM)-M3 processor. The 38 new MCUs include the MB9BF529TPMC, which is equipped with high-capacity memory, and the MB9BF121JPMC, which features low-pin-count packaging. The new devices, which are optimal for system control in household appliances, office automation systems and industrial equipment, bring the growing family of Fujitsu FM3 MCUs to a total of 570 products. Sample quantities of the latest devices will be available starting May 10, 2013.

The MCUs announced today are part of the Basic Group of the FM3 Family, which balances performance and cost. Highlights among the 38 new devices are the high-capacity MB9B520T/420T/320T/120T Series (which features up to 1.5MB of flash memory), the low-pin MB9B120J Series (which is available in 32-pin packaging), and the low-power MB9A420L/120L Series (which supports CAN communications).

Fujitsu MB9B520T Series Features High-capacity Memory

The MB9B520T/420T/320T/120T Series features peripheral functions including CAN, USB 2.0 Host/Function, multifunction serial (UART/CSI0/LIN/I(2)C) and other serial communications features. A multifunction timer is capable of inverter control. Some versions provide internal flash memory ranging up to 1.5MB – the highest capacity option in the FM3 family. The MB9B520T series, available in 144-pin to 192-pin packages, is optimal for inverter control applications in household appliances and in motors used in office automation equipment, as well as for man-machine interface control in AV equipment. The high-capacity memory makes it possible to support multiple languages in the display components of AV and office automation equipment.

Low-Pin-Count Packaging Makes MB9B120J Series Ideal for Inverter Control Designs

The new MB9B120J Series is the first series in the FM3 family to feature 32-pin packaging. The series is available at operating speeds of up to 72 MHz, which is the highest for the Basic Group of products. A multifunction timer capable of inverter control and a high-speed, high-sensitivity,12-bit AD converter make this series an optimal choice for applications requiring low-pin inverter control (such as general-use inverters and motors for low-end industrial equipment), as well as for household appliances (like refrigerators, washing machines, and induction heating cookware). The series is also ideal for devices that require a one-to-one motor-to-microcontroller system architecture.

MB9A420L/120L Series Features CAN Communications, Energy-efficiency

In addition to leveraging the energy-efficient technology of the FM3 Family’s Low Power Group of products, the MB9A420L/120L Series features CAN communications functionality, a multifunction timer for inverter control, and a 10-bit DA converter. The series, which is available in 48-pin to 64-pin packages, is designed for use in equipment that requires push-button tone control, such as elevators, building management applications, and electronic switchboards.

The Fujitsu FM3 MCU family, introduced in 2010, also includes High Performance, Low Power, and Ultra Low Leak groups. Fujitsu will soon expand its microcontroller portfolio with the FM4 Family of Cortex-M4 core-based processors and the FM0+ Family of Cortex-M0+ core-based processors.
