Tailoring high-performance computing and storage solutions for reseachers
Bothell, WA (PRWEB) May 08, 2013
Silicon Mechanics, Inc. announces that it will be showcasing its high-performance computing, storage, general computing, and server solutions at the University of Toronto´s TechKnowFile 2013, which will be held May 9-10, 2013 at the University´s downtown St. George campus. Silicon Mechanics is a gold sponsor of the event, which provides IT professionals and administrative staff from academia a forum in which to discuss, share, and disseminate innovative and pioneering views on recent IT trends and developments.
At a companion event on May 8th, Silicon Mechanics will hold a Tech Talk, entitled Architecting Software-Defined Storage with ZFS. The talk will be held from 11:30-1:00 at the University of Toronto Faculty Club, upstairs dining room. Lunch will be served at the event.
On hand at the sponsor table will be Art Mann, Silicon Mechanics´ education/research/ government vertical group sales manager, who will be available to discuss tailoring computing and storage solutions to meet the needs of academic researchers. “We are excited to be a sponsor of this unique event and looking forward to improving and expanding our longstanding partnership with the University of Toronto,” said Mann.
Also at the sponsor table will be industry expert Tommy Scherer, Silicon Mechanics´ product engineer, who will be available to talk with conference attendees about zStax StorCore, an enterprise-class, software-defined storage solution that provides open, unified storage management. zStax products are built on ZFS, using industry-standard x86 hardware.
Mr. Scherer´s Tech Talk, held the day before the TechKnowFile conference, will include a more detailed discussion of open storage solutions, offering participants a foundation of open hardware and software-defined storage software. Mr. Scherer will discuss how organizations can realize enterprise-level availability, performance, and expandability at industry-standard prices. The talk will cover how the ZFS file system leverages today´s powerful industry-standard hardware to drive high I/O requirements through the use of several tiers of cache. Since the underlying kernel and file system components are fully open, the solution allows for a very portable and affordable solution.
