Over 5x Increase in BigMemory Downloads in Q1 2013 Compared to Q1 2012; BigMemory and In-Genius Stevie Award Finalists

SAN FRANCISCO, May 20, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Building on momentum from 2012, Terracotta, Inc., the leader in in-memory technologies for enterprise Big Data, recognized a dramatic increase in product downloads of its flagship BigMemory line in the first quarter of 2013, with a 5x increase over the first quarter of 2012. In addition, the company’s move to a freemium program for the best-selling product delivered an increase in average monthly BigMemory downloads of 700%. Demonstrating the breadth and depth of its offerings, average monthly downloads of open source Terracotta products Ehcache and Quartz Scheduler also grew more than 20%. Since its acquisition by Software AG in 2011, Terracotta has continued to demonstrate strong demand for its in-memory solutions that enable very fast access, insights and action on Big Data in real time.

“With its freemium pricing model, Terracotta allows customers to experience the value proposition of BigMemory before they invest a lot of money,” said Nathaniel Rowe, Research Analyst for Aberdeen Group. “Their short proof-of-concept cycle allows potential customers to realize the business value of in-memory technology quickly, which Aberdeen’s research shows is able to return analytic results up to 100-times faster than traditional databases. That is the blue water that separates them from the competition.”

  • >5x increase in downloads of BigMemory Q1 2013 compared to Q1 2012
  • 20% increase in average monthly downloads of open source products Ehcache and Quartz Scheduler
  • 7x increase in average monthly downloads for BigMemory solution since freemium program launched

“In-memory solutions for Big Data are preferred by innovative enterprises using data as a competitive advantage and Terracotta is a leader in this fast growing market,” said Robin Gilthorpe, Chief Executive Officer of Terracotta, Inc. “We’ve proven that offering customers an opportunity to test our solutions in their own environments through a freemium model, coupled with our extremely fast proof-of-concept delivery, is driving interest across industries and departments. Our customers trust our ability to deliver performance at any scale with platforms that give them real-time value from their high-value, high-velocity data.”

The company also announced that its most recent edition of BigMemory version 4.0 and its upcoming In-Genius platform have both been selected as finalists in the 2013 American Business Awards for New Product or Service of the Year – Software – Business or Competitive Intelligence Solution. Winners will be unveiled at the 2013 awards banquet in San Francisco in September.

Terracotta’s BigMemory and In-Genius
In the first quarter of 2013, Terracotta unveiled the newest version of its flagship in-memory data platform, BigMemory. With BigMemory version 4.0, enterprises can move up to hundreds of terabytes of high-value data from slow disk drives to machine memory for blazingly fast, predictable access. BigMemory 4.0 also delivers enterprise-grade levels of reliability and flexibility that were formerly available only in traditional, disk-based data management systems. The company also unveiled its plans for In-Genius, a new native in-memory platform for real-time insight and intelligent action on Big Data that will allow organizations to discover hidden insights and instantly act on them. As a result, enterprises can significantly reduce risk, automate business processes and rapidly deploy new offers, products and services, all in real-time.

Terracotta’s strong growth follows on the heels of recent Software AG announcements of its own double-digit growth and recent acquisition of LongJump, the most comprehensive cloud platform for business and process-driven applications. Headquartered in Santa Clara, CA, LongJump will support the greater corporation’s overall cloud strategy and growth initiatives around Big Data, Cloud, Mobile and Social megatrends.
