Whodini Expands Offerings With Grappple Acquisition
New Assets Enrich Goalchi Goal Tracking Software Product
Los Altos, California (PRWEB) May 21, 2013
Whodini Inc. has acquired the assets of Grappple Inc., which includes its proprietary goal-tracking technology. The technology will be integrated into Whodini´s Goalchi application, which provides intelligent goal tracking that enables individuals to benchmark and measure their work and life goals. The new Goalchi app is scheduled for release by end-of-year 2013.
Grappple, Inc. was founded by a group of students at CalPoly University, San Luis Obispo, and germinated from Startup Weekend SLO in early 2012. Its goal-tracking application was incubated in CalPoly´s HotHouse later that summer. The HotHouse program funds student entrepreneurs and provides support, helping to accelerate student-founded business ideas. Startup Weekend is a global non-profit organization founded to provide support to entrepreneurs around the world as they work to grow their businesses.
“Whodini has developed a unique natural language processing technology, which automates the tracking and achievement of both personal and business goals,” said Whodini CEO Jim Chappell. “The combination of Grappple´s technology with ours will enable us to offer our customers a richer, more intuitive application. The new technology will also significantly reduce our time-to-market, which we anticipate to be in Q4 of 2013.”
“It´s really quite gratifying for all of us at Grappple to realize the fruits of our labor,” said Garrett Lauringson, Grappple co-founder, “and to know that the technology we developed as students will be instrumental in the future of what we believe will be a very successful new product offering with the introduction of the Goalchi app. The Startup Weekend SLO and CalPoly´s HotHouse incubator program for entrepreneurs were great support and learning environments. They were key in positioning Grappple for this acquisition.”
“Goalchi’s acquisition of the Grappple platform really encompasses how students’ ideas can move from concept to business to success through the Cal Poly Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship’s programs,” said Jon York, Co-Founder and Director of the Cal Poly Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship. “The Grappple team made a great contribution to entrepreneurship at Cal Poly, and we’re pleased that their platform will live on through Goalchi.”
Kristin Kenney, organizer for Startup Weekend SLO is a strong believer in the CalPoly and San Luis Obispo entrepreneurial spirit. “We are delighted that we were able to play a part in the success of Grappple. We knew that the SLO area was rich with ideas and the kind of initiative it takes to grow a business. The acquisition of Grappple by Whodini validates that belief. We look forward to the introduction of Goalchi.”
