Vivint Helps Consumers Prevent Intrusion This Summer with Home Automation

The summer season gives homeowners and families across the country the opportunity to spend more time outside enjoying the warm weather. Unfortunately, summer is also a time when homes are at a higher risk to be burglarized. According to the FBI, crime rates increase 6-16% during the summer, and home intrusion increases 10-20% during July and August.
When temperatures rise, homeowners often lower their guard and leave their entry points vulnerable: leaving windows open for a breeze, leaving garages open for convenience, and leaving doors unlocked to let the neighborhood kids get inside. All of these activities can make it easier for burglars to enter a home, especially since most burglars report entering their targets through open windows and doors or by forcing open an entry point.
Ken Clifton from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has experienced this feeling of safety firsthand. In 2004, the Cliftons had their car stolen when they accidentally left their garage door ajar.
