Ricoh unveils projection systems designed especially for education

June 12, 2013

New ‘short throw’ devices address new modes of learning

MALVERN, Pa., June 12, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Because a multimedia world demands a multimedia education, Ricoh Americas Corporation today unveiled two powerful projection systems especially for schools and corporate training organizations.

Unlike traditional projectors, the RICOH PJ X4240N/PJ WX4240N “short throw” projection systems are positioned 23 to 58 inches from the front wall or screen, enabling educators to move throughout the classroom without casting shadows or dealing with distracting light in their eyes. Mounted on the wall or placed on a desk, the systems create high-definition images from 50 to as large as 140 inches diagonally, bringing electronic slides, photos and videos to life.

“Multimedia is indispensable in education given that students, both children and adults, spend a lot of their time looking at smartphones, tablets, computers and the television,” said Matt Sakauchi, Vice President, Visual Communications Group, Ricoh Americas Corporation. “Our projection systems were designed to make it easy and cost-effective for any school district or corporate training organization to experience the benefits of multimedia and Ricoh’s advanced technology.”

The RICOH PJ X4240N/PJ WX4240N projection systems enable unprecedented interactivity. For example, when they are combined with optional eBeam(®) technology from Luidia, ordinary whiteboards are transformed into digital smartboards that capture content for reuse. The cost-effective RICOH projector/eBeam combination is priced around $3,000 – or one-third to one-half the cost of a packaged digital whiteboard.

An HDMI port on the RICOH PJ WX4240N gives classroom content another new dimension by enabling educators to connect a Blu-ray player and show high-definition 3D videos, further captivating students’ interest and deepening their understanding.

Ricoh projection systems feature a breakthrough auto brightness function that adjusts to variations in ambient light, prolonging lamp life and conserving electricity. A built-in 10-watt speaker system provides impressive audio for larger corporate settings, even though the device barely consumes the footprint of a business letter.

Both projection systems are networkable for easy content sharing, central device management and simultaneous presentation to as many as four classrooms at once. The RICOH PJ WX420N leverages wireless networks, making it easy for Mac or PC users to project their presentations without plugging anything in.
