Kars4Kids Sustains Severe Lightning Strike; Captures Amazing Footage
The strong storms that tore through the tri-state yesterday took a turn for the worse with a lightning strike on the Kars4Kids NJ headquarters. Video footage shows the lightning strike as it happened.
Lakewood, NJ (PRWEB) June 14, 2013
An ordinary workday at car donation charity Kars4Kids took an unusual turn when a lightning bolt struck the nonprofit’s office building in Lakewood, New Jersey yesterday. There was a loud bang and the power went out momentarily, frightening employees but thankfully hurting no one. Firefighters arrived within minutes of the strike.
A Kars4Kids employee captured video of the lightning as it struck, the Kars4Kids video can be viewed on NBC.
There was minimal damage to the building’s interior. Pictures of the damage can be found on the Kars for Kids Facebook page.
The lightning strike took place in the midst of a severe thunderstorm which flooded parts of South Jersey. Lakewood itself had seen large amounts of flooding earlier in the week.
A Kars4Kids employee had set up a camera to record the lightning show and thus caught the lightning strike and subsequent power outage on camera. The video footage shows a man walking across Kars4kids’ parking lot when the lightning strikes, sending him running. He was unhurt.
“Besides for some jangled nerves, everyone is okay,” said Kars4Kids employee Wendy Kirwan. “Thankfully, we were back up and running within a hour of the strike.”
A number of news stations picked up the raw footage of the strike, including coverage of the Kars4Kids story by TheLakewoodScoop.com
Kars4Kids is a national nonprofit organization that funds educational and youth programs, including school placement, summer camps, and mentorship programs.
