Ed Tech Start-Ups from around the World Come to San Antonio to Showcase and Pitch Their New Ideas

U.S. Department of Education Official Richard Culatta among Judges at ISTE 2013 Ed Tech Start-Up Pitch Fest

More than 40 ed tech start-ups from the United States and United Kingdom are gathering in San Antonio at the International Society for Technology in Education’s (ISTE®) 2013 annual conference and expo to showcase the innovative software and applications that they have developed to help transform learning and teaching. In addition, in a three-day Ed Tech Start-up Pitch Fest, 20 companies will compete to discover which company attendees think has the most promise.

On Monday, June 24, Richard Culatta, Acting Director, Office of Educational Technology at the U.S. Department of Education may visit the U.S. Pavilion in the San Antonio Convention Center (SACC) along with education technology officials from the United Kingdom to see first-hand the new innovations that these entrepreneurs have developed. In addition, he will be among the judges in the final round of the Pitch Fest on Wednesday, June 26. Culatta will be a key player in the implementation of President Obama’s ConnectEd Initiative to connect 99 percent of America’s students to high-speed broadband and high-speed wireless within five years, announced just two weeks ago.

What:         Ed Tech Start-Up Pitch Fest

Each session will feature up to 10 companies each giving a 5-minute presentation before a panel of distinguished judges. Audience votes will be counted with the judges’ votes to determine the three companies from each round that will advance to the final. The six companies who advance from the preliminary rounds will give five-minute presentations before a new panel of prestigious judges and audience members. Prize packages will be awarded in three categories. Audience votes will be counted with the judges’ votes to determine the winner in each category.

When:     Round #1: Monday, June 24: 5:30–7:30 pm SACC, Ballroom C-1

        Round #2: Tuesday, June 25: 5–7 pm SACC, Ballroom C-1

Final Round: Wednesday, June 26: 9:45–11:15 am, SACC Expo Hall Technology Infrastructure Pavilion, Booth 5304

United States and United Kingdom Ed Tech Start-up Pavilions

What:        Twenty ed tech start-ups from the U.S. and 20 from the U.K. will showcase their new solutions for leveraging technology to improve learning.

When:     Monday, June 24, 9:30 am – 5:30 pm

        Tuesday, June 25, 9:30 am – 5 pm

        Wednesday, June 25, 9:30 am – 2:30 pm
