According to Technology Business Research Inc.’s 2012 Global Telecom Infrastructure Services (TIS) Addressable Market Forecast, the TIS market exceeded $95 billion in 2012, driven by LTE and fixed-access deployments and managed services. This report forecasts the spend in telecom infrastructure services across North America, APAC and EMEA, giving clients qualitative and quantitative information across segments such as deployment, maintenance, professional and managed services, fixed and wireless technologies, as well as across customer types. The value of this report is the level of detail provided through its financial metrics, analysis of company strategies, and identification of trends occurring in the global TIS market.

Chris Antlitz, an analyst in TBR’s Networking & Mobility Practice, said, "LTE deployments are forecast to peak globally in the 2014 to 2015 time frame, and that investment cycle will create numerous opportunities to sell a variety of services to operators. In the latter part of the forecast, operators will push forward with new business models that leverage their broadband networks, which will drive spend on professional services. This report will serve as a guide for vendors competing in the space and provide decision making insight to maximize success in the market."

The report provides a detailed view into the dynamics shaping the TIS market. Scenario analysis shows that large LTE deployments will begin in CALA and China in late 2013 and in Europe and India in 2014. All regions will be investing in LTE by 2015, initially bringing coverage to cities and then slowly expanding to rural areas. Network densification (small cell and Wi-Fi buildouts) and enhanced backhaul initiatives will supplement these LTE deployments as operators look for ways to cost-effectively boost network speeds and coverage.

While LTE deployments are under way, operators will look to consolidate their legacy billing and network management systems and optimize them to handle data traffic. These OSS/BSS transformation projects will spur opportunities to sell a range of services, but professional services firms will benefit most as operators will require help to plan, create and integrate these new systems. Professional services firms will also benefit from helping operators start new businesses, such as vertical applications and cloud services, which leverage existing infrastructure.

Operations outsourcing and network optimization will remain strong growth areas as operators increasingly look for ways to reduce their cost structures to ease margin pressure. TBR believes the biggest opportunity for full outsourcing engagements is with Tier 2 and 3 operators seeking to gain a competitive advantage over larger rivals. TBR expects Tier 1 network solution providers such as Ericsson and Huawei to win the bulk of available managed services contracts.
