On July 5, Bay Fastening Systems issues a statement concerning a recent discussion within the US auto industry about the slow rolling pace of employee hiring following the recent spike in productivity.

According to a June 19th article by NPR titled “U.S. Automakers are on a Roll, But Hiring is Slow and Steady,” the auto industry is experiencing a rise in productivity that is taxing the current capacity of manufacturing plants nationwide. The article cites Kristin Dziczek, a director at the Center for Automotive Research, who says, “People ask a lot, is the auto industry back?”, to which she responds, “And it depends on what scale you want to look at.”

New positive developments in the auto industry have not lead to the expected wave of hiring. Dziczek also commented in the article, "Employment's still got a long way to go.” Eight thousand workers were hired in early 2013 and that number is expected to rise slower than it has following other historical recessions.

Automakers are still very aware of the effects of the 2008-2009 auto industry crisis, and this has translated into some hesitance in expansion plans. Foreign companies such as Volkswagen have plans to open plants in other countries, but there is no evidence of a U.S. plant opening in the near future.

Blind rivet distributor Bay Fastening Systems issues a statement about the current status of the auto industry. “A healthy auto industry can have a positive impact on this country’s economy,” says Michael Eichinger, Vice President and COO of Bay Fastening Systems.
