Celebrity Business Analyst Releases Weekend Box Office Report
Celebrity Business Analyst announces the release of its weekly box office report after a record-breaking weekend at the movies. The report comes on the back of a July 4 piece from The Inquisitr entitled "'Despicable Me 2' Breaks Records at the Box Office."
Austin, TX (PRWEB) July 12, 2013
Celebrity Business Analyst released its weekly box office analysis today following a July 4 piece from The Inquisitr that touted the instant success of Despicable Me 2. Along with the number one sequel, Celebrity Business Analyst discusses the box office performances of the weekend’s other two runners-up.
1. Despicable Me 2: Families have enjoyed watching the first film of this series through satellite tv promotions, and fans everywhere have waited for this movie for three years. The sequel to the 2010 film has been so popular that it has broken records on its very first day in theaters. Despicable Me 2 reportedly made $34.3 million, making it Universal Pictures’ biggest Wednesday opening ever. Not only did the film enjoy the number one spot at the box office, but it now comes in third place on the list of animated feature openings. Its total domestic gross for the weekend was $88.5 million.
2. The Lone Ranger: Less successful this weekend was Disney’s revival of The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp. Celebrity Business Analyst thinks that younger crowds will probably not remember the classic television series, and that could be one reason the movie spin-off didn’t have an impressive opening. It grossed just over $29 million, which puts it far off track from its $215 million budget. Celebrity Business Analyst’s senior writer still has hopes for the film, saying, "Depp is even more popular overseas than at home, so there’s still a chance the movie will do well worldwide and pull in enough to cover its production budget."
3. The Heat: In its second week, Fox’s comedy The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy, got bumped down one spot. The movie made $24.7 million this weekend. Its total domestic gross after ten days in theaters is $86.4 million.
Celebrity Business Analyst summed up its box office analysis by stating that its forecast for the weekend’s number one movie was spot on. The site did express surprise that The Lone Ranger didn’t do as well as they had predicted, but all in all, the weekend report matched most industry-wide predictions.
