The "Walk Up! Alarm Clock" for the iPhone forces people out of bed.

The "Walk Up! Alarm Clock" (https://itun.es/us/dEjCN.i) is an iPhone app that has launched worldwide and takes a unique approach to getting people to wake up.

Developed by San Francisco based developer Namo Apps (http://www.NamoApps.co), the iPhone only app literally forces people out of bed. It uses the phone’s accelerometer to count the number of steps needed to stop the alarm. The user can set up to 100 steps needed to stop the alarm, depending on his or her individual needs.

App designer Ricky Ho of Namo Apps says that he and his team develop apps that address their own daily problems. “Since the hardest part of waking up for us was actually getting out of bed, why not create an app that solved for just that.”

The team at Namo Apps feels it’s a perfect addition to any back to school supply list.

Every part of the app is designed with a stern parental mindset should the user attempt to cheat. The app is programmed to ignore shaking of the phone and is set to automatically vibrate should the user turn off the phone’s sound.

The app also features beautifully animated themes that are based around a countdown to the set alarm. One of the themes involves a meteor approaching earth while another theme has a shark swimming toward an unsuspecting school of fish. All scenes reach a climax at the time of the alarm.

There is also a suite of graphic sound effects and an evil mode that prohibits snoozing. "We have built a 'take-no-prisoners' arsenal into the app, all designed to force people out of bed," says Mr. Ho.

Walk Up! Alarm Clock costs $0.99 USD and is available exclusively for the App Store.

Mr. Ho and his team are already working on updates and new graphic themes. An iPad version is due to be released later in the year.
