Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) August 20, 2013
Qubole™, a provider of the next generation Cloud Big Data platform, is proud to announce that two executives will be offering thought leadership and hands-on training at the NoSQLNow! conference in San Jose.
Ashish Thusoo’s presentation, “Democratizing Data with Qubole”, will be held on Thursday, August 22nd at 11:15 AM. In this session, Thusoo will explain how the Qubole Data Service is helping users at all levels import data, build sophisticated data pipelines and export data sets to various sources. The Big Data-as-a-Service platform is revolutionizing the way that companies attack Hadoop and this is a can’t-miss talk from the creator of Hive.
Shrikanth Shankar’s workshop, titled “Analyzing Big Data with Hive”, will take place on Thursday, August 22nd from 8:30 AM to 11:45 AM as part of the curriculum for the Big Data NoSQL Summer School. In his presentation, Shrikanth will explain what Hive is and how it works behind the scenes. He will cover data modeling in Hive, Hive Query Language constructs, features and syntax, the Hive Execution Model using MapReduce, and Hive performance optimization. It will be a hands-on session, teaching attendees best practices and how to optimize queries in real-life scenarios, using the same platform that processed over 1 petabyte of data in July 2013.
“Sharing Qubole’s knowledge and expertise is a major component of our philosophy,” said Shrikanth Shankar. “We hope that the workshop, alongside Ashish’s presentation, helps educate users and bring the power of Big Data to more companies worldwide.”
Tony Shaw, CEO of Dataversity and the co-host of the NoSQLNow! Conference, is excited to have the Qubole executives participate. “It is strong thought leaders like Ashish and Shrikanth that are revolutionizing this industry and pushing us forward. It’s a privilege to have Qubole’s experts here at NoSQLNow!”
Ashish Thusoo is the co-creator of Apache Hive and served as the project's founding Vice President at the Apache Software Foundation. He started his working career as an engineer at Oracle where he contributed heavily to many core components of Oracle RDBMS. Ashish ran the Data Infrastructure team at Facebook, leading the team in the construction of one of the largest data processing and analytics platform in the world.
Shrikanth Shankar is the Head of Engineering at Qubole. Previously, Shrikanth worked at Oracle for over a decade, rising to become Director of Development in the BI team. Shrikanth was one of the leaders of the Oracle Exalytics effort and helped drive the product from conception to release. Prior to that, Shrikanth was on Oracle’s database team in the SQL/DSS group, where he made significant contributions to many different portions of the Oracle stack, ranging from partitioning, SQL optimization, and SQL/parallel execution all the way to indexing and data layers.
