Qosmos Announces Founding Membership in CloudNFV, Multi-Vendor NFV Demonstration Platform
NFV demonstration platform leverages Qosmos network intelligence technology to obtain crucial telemetry for traffic optimization and control.
Paris, France (PRWEB) August 21, 2013
Qosmos, the market leader in embedded Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and network intelligence technology, today announced that it is a founding member of CloudNFV, a cooperative initiative creating an open, multi-vendor platform to implement Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) based on established cloud computing and Software Defined Networking (SDN) technologies. Qosmos provides key network intelligence technology required for traffic optimization and control in the multi-vendor NFV demonstration platform.
The CloudNFV initiative, which is coordinated by Tom Nolle, President of CIMI Corporation, brings together companies with complementary technology and expertise to demonstrate a multi-vendor NFV platform. In addition to Qosmos and CIMI Corporation, the other founding members are 6WIND, Dell, EnterpriseWeb, and Overture.
“Qosmos is delighted to be part of this initiative demonstrating real SDN & NFV implementations," said Thibaut Bechetoille, CEO at Qosmos. “Our ability to offer DPI-as-a-service is critical for a number of service provider NFV applications such as policy-based traffic management.”
Qosmos technology plays a key role in the CloudNFV Demonstration Platform. First, Qosmos DeepFlow DPI OEM traffic probes monitor traffic flows so the platform can optimize network utilization and performance. Second, the Qosmos ixEngine DPI engine is used as a VNF Component (VNFC) to enhance service chaining. This allows service providers to optimize Virtual Machine placement and orchestration on top of physical resources.
Information on Qosmos’ role in CloudNFV and details about the technical framework and the initial prototype can be found in the documentation available on the CloudNFV website.
The objective of CloudNFV is to structure software and hardware elements, select practical interfaces and data models, and adapt as needed through the evolution of the ETSI NFV ISG specification. Qosmos plays an active role in standardizing DPI and Network Intelligence within the Open Networking Foundation (ONF™) and the ETSI Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) Industry Specification Group (ISG). As part of the ETSI NFV ISG, Qosmos contributed to the Software Architecture group for the use case definition of the Virtual Networking Function Component (VNFC). Qosmos’ DPI engine was used as an illustration in the definition.
Qosmos turns networks into information sources, making them application- and service-aware. The company’s award-winning Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and Layer 7 Network Intelligence (NI) technologies recognize thousands of communication protocols and metadata attributes, creating an essential information layer that gives the most accurate picture of real-time data activity on networks.
Market-leading equipment makers, specialized software vendors and cloud service providers embed Qosmos in telco and enterprise solutions where real-time Layer 7 intelligence is critical, such as traffic optimization, policy management, quality of experience, analytics, firewalls, cyber defense and more. Qosmos software development kit and probes can be used in all environments – physical, virtualized and in SDN architectures – to accelerate time to market and ensure continuous signature updates.
A pioneer in Network Intelligence based on DPI, Qosmos is the leading independent OEM provider on the market today, serving more than 50 companies worldwide. Based in Paris, Qosmos has offices in Silicon Valley, Singapore and London. For more information, please visit http://www.qosmos.com.
CloudNFV is a not-for-profit, voluntary and collaborative activity aimed at advancing NFV using proven cloud principles and techniques. The activity is not sanctioned by, or associated with, the NFV Industry Specifications Group (ISG) or ETSI, although CloudNFV participants are required to be members of NFV ISG. CIMI Corporation is the initial facilitator for CloudNFV activities, though the company makes no claim on intellectual property created by or for this project. The website domains associated with it and the trademark of the term CloudNFV will be transferred at the appropriate point to the company or body that will manage the ongoing maintenance of the prototype platform/implementation created by this project.
