New York, NY (PRWEB) September 05, 2013

The National Fire Protection Association (http://www.nfpa.org) and Cupcake Digital have introduced a free deluxe storybook app, Sparky’s Birthday Surprise, available on the iTunes App Store, Amazon App Store for Android, Google Play and the Barnes & Noble App Store for NOOKTM. The app is designed to teach kids essential fire safety skills such as what to do if they hear a smoke alarm, how to be safe when cooking, and how to recognize things that may be hot in the kitchen. In the story, it’s Sparky the Fire Dog®’s birthday, and his friends are throwing him a surprise party. Kids will help plan the party as they learn and play with this creative and amusing app.

“As part of our commitment to designing enhanced story apps with an educational purpose, we are thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the NFPA to provide life-saving information in a way that’s fun and easy for kids to digest,” says Cupcake Digital President Susan Miller. “This project has been a labor of love for our team, and has inspired us to continue to work with organizations like NFPA to deliver more apps that provide helpful information for educators, families and kids in the near future.”

Sparky’s Birthday Surprise is loaded with Cupcake Digital’s high-quality standards for building storybook apps, including an original story with bright graphics, tap-and-play animations, three modes of reading, interactive and educational games that reinforce reading and counting skills, coloring pages, and a unique sing-along animated song.

“NFPA is excited to launch Sparky’s Birthday Surprise, a fun, interactive learning app that enhances the reading experience with life-saving fire safety messages,” said Judy Comoletti, NFPA’s Division Manager – Public Education. “Kids and grown-ups will learn the importance of having working smoke alarms, practicing home fire drills and a designated outside meeting place. The experience will keep kids coming back for more fun activities with Sparky the Fire Dog and his friends.”

Fire Prevention Week is October 6-12, 2013. NFPA is the official sponsor of Fire Prevention Week, and has made more information available at http://www.firepreventionweek.org. Parents and children also can visit sparky.org for more fun fire safety activities.
