Dubai, UAE (PRWEB) September 20, 2013

Stafford has introduced an MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice course in the Middle East and Levant in collaboration with the prestigious University of Leicester from the UK. It is a distance learning Master’s programme supported by the University of Leicester online portal Blackboard. The duration of the programme is two years with six modules and a dissertation.

The programme equips graduates with an advanced understanding of crime and criminal justice. It throws light on the extent, effects and explanations of crime, and examines the criminal justice process along with the role of agencies like courts, police, prisons and probation service. Students are also trained in research methodologies, opening the door to a rewarding career for them.

There are three core and three optional modules, all of which must be successfully completed for the degree. The three mandatory modules are Theories of Crime and Deviance, Issues in Criminal Justice and Research Methods. For optional modules students can choose from Issues in Community Safety, Policing and Crime Prevention, Police Leadership in the 21st Century, Leadership and Management, Crime and Penal Policy, and Policing Diversity.

Each module in the programme lasts for around 12 weeks, three weeks of which are intended for students to write the assignment. For the dissertation, students get approximately five months. The MSc degree is awarded when students pass the dissertation. Students who complete one year with three modules can exit the programme with a Postgraduate Certificate, while those through 1.5 years with six modules can opt out after receiving a Postgraduate Diploma.

MSc Criminology and Criminal Justice is a demanding programme suitable for applicants having sociology, law, politics, psychology or history background. As for entry requirements, anyone with a first or second class honours degree or an equivalent professional qualification can apply. People who can demonstrate adequate work experience and knowledge can get enrolment without an undergraduate degree. Read more here about the MSc degree.
