Smarp Announced Today That Rihanna is the Most Spotted Celebrity on Twitter Worldwide

Out of 40,000 unique celebrity sightings Smarp published during Q3 2013, Rihanna is the most spotted celebrity ahead of Justin Bieber, One Direction, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga. Smarp also revealed today that it just passed the one million visits per month milestone in September 2013.

Smarp, the real-time social celebrity spotting company, saw its web traffic multiplied by 10 over the last six month to exceed 1 million per month visits in September 2013. Over the same period, the number of unique visitors grew from 100,000 to over half a million (Source Quantcast). “We have been experiencing a tremendous growth of our traffic in the past few months," said Smarp Founder Didier Frantz. “Users have also been returning more frequently and getting more engaged. The market validation of social spotting has been truly remarkable,” he added.

Social spotting is using Natural Language Processing (NLP) to geo-tag web postings (e.g., Twitter or Facebook feeds) and produce structured celebrity spottings. Smarp proprietary NLP technology, that extracts celebrity names and locations contained in a text, remains an unmatched tool for providing large volume of real time sightings.

Over 9,000 celebrities were spotted at least once during the past three months with the Top Five –Rihanna, Justin Bieber, One Direction, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga– representing less than 5% of all sightings. Da Silvano and Sons of Essex in New York, and Boa Steakhouse and Giorgio Baldi in Los Angeles are celebrities’ favorite restaurants, while XS Nightclub Hakassan and Tao in Las Vegas are among their top party places.

Smarp continuously improves the service and recently launched a new web interface with a stronger emphasis given to photos of celebrity sightings and increased sharing functionalities. In addition, Smarp significantly enhanced its NLP algorithms, therefore improving the geo-tagging accuracy by 50%.
