The Bonati Spine Institute is pleased to share the latest findings on surgical outcomes for patients with degenerative Spondylolisthesis (DS). Spondylolisthesis is a condition that can cause back pain, numbness and difficult walking or standing and most of these symptoms are aggravated by standing, walking or other activities. It results from a forward slippage of one vertebra in the spine over another, and in adults is most often caused by the degeneration of discs and ligaments that bind and support the spine.

Spondylolisthesis only responds to surgical treatment. By re-routing the affected nerve through procedures called laminotomy and foraminoplasty, the surgeon will give the nerves of the spine more room and reduce the irritation and inflammation caused by pressure on the nerves.

In the study, those patients that met a certain set of criteria improved more with surgery than those with the non-operative treatments. This group of patients with positive outcomes included those that were female, under the age of 67, were not experiencing stomach problems, did not use opioids or antidepressants and were anticipating a high likelihood of improvement with the surgery.

The Bonati Spine Institute can provide a treatment for Spondylolisthesis. The Bonati Spine Procedures are effective and can provide patients with relief. For more information on Spondylolisthesis, please visit http://www.bonati.com/conditions/Spondylolisthesis/.
