Anite Leads 5GRadio Channel Model Development

METIS participation will enable Anite to provide industry’s first testing

solutions for 5G

Anite, a global leader in wireless equipment testing technology, today announced that
it has been appointed to lead the radio channel modelling Task Group within the METIS
project (Mobile and wireless communications Enablers for the 2020 Information Society).

Co-funded by the European Commission, METIS is a consortium of 28 key wireless
industry players and the first international and large-scale research activity on 5G. Its
main objective is to lay the foundation for 5G, the next generation mobile and wireless
communications system. 5G will address the huge surge predicted in mobile data consumption

As the only test equipment vendor involved in the METIS project, Anite has
participated in defining five 5G scenarios that reflect the future challenges of wireless
communications standards. The five scenarios, recently made public in a press release
issued by METIS

, shape the definition of propagation conditions and form the basis of channel modelling
development. METIS has derived a challenging set of requirements from these scenarios,
including one thousand times more mobile data per area compared to today’s average
traffic. The radio channel modelling Task Group is expected to publish its first results
in April of 2014.

The success of 5G radio technology development requires the efficient utilisation of
