CFNC.org adds free online video library to help North Carolinians plan, apply and pay for college

December 11, 2013

RALEIGH, N.C., Dec. 11, 2013 /PRNewswire/ — A new online video storytelling platform for college and career advising, “Let Me Tell You,” is now available at the College Foundation of North Carolina website, CFNC.org. The platform, powered by Mytonomy, adds more than 3,000 online college and career videos to CFNC.org, making it even easier for North Carolina high school students and their families to get free, first-hand tips from peers and educators.

North Carolina’s college access portal, CFNC.org, is the first state portal to offer Mytonomy’s innovative approach statewide. Wendy McAlister, CEO of College Foundation, Inc. which hosts the CFNC.org website, says, “The state’s education entities that make up College Foundation of North Carolina are uniformly enthusiastic about making this near-peer guidance available to North Carolina high schools and their students. We also are excited with the tools “Let Me Tell You” (“LMTY”) adds for school counselors.”

Video topics include considering college choices, writing college application essays, finding scholarships, choosing a college major, being a first-generation college student, exploring careers and more. This “near-peer” guidance demystifies components of the college application process, walks high school students through unfamiliar tasks and experiences, enables them to envision themselves in college, and highlights best practices.

Counselors, and parents and adult learners, also benefit from LMTY using the Counselor Toolkit which goes over common questions, basic advice and other helpful college planning information. As part of this new service, North Carolina school counselors also can utilize a free, private network , LMTY Plus, to create individual playlists of videos for their school and assign particular videos to students needing help on a specific phase of the college process.

With the launch of LMTY, North Carolina high school and college students not only have the chance to learn from others’ experiences, they also can share their own by contributing videos to the LMTY library. To learn more about LMTY, go to http://lmty.cfnc.org or select the LMTY icon on the CFNC.org homepage.

This expansion of resources available on the CFNC.org website is occurring simultaneously with the statewide CFNC “College works” campaign that emphasizes five proven reasons N.C. students and adults should consider continuing their education beyond high school by enrolling in community or four-year colleges: greater wealth; more financial security; better health; closer families, and stronger communities.
