Yakima, Washington (PRWEB) February 21, 2014
VitalWare, the leader in business intelligence for ICD-10 and beyond, today announced they were selected, along with DCBA, to provide Western Reserve Hospital, located in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, with ICD-10 upfront risk analysis using the company’s VitalAuditor Jump Start, VitalCDI and DCBA’s professional services. To start the upfront ICD-10 risk analysis, VitalWare analyzed Western Reserve’s claims data and recommended chart audits based on data analytics mined from VitalWare’s robust data repository of over 7,500 natively coded ICD-10 claims.
VitalWare’s team of expert ICD-10 coders then performed audits on the identified at risk claims for documentation and coding opportunities. Once the audits were complete, the results were handed off and utilized by DCBA to formulate a laser-focused physician education program for Western Reserve, as well as to establish and roll out their Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) program. Employing VitalWare’s VitalCDI, Western Reserve will be able to perform concurrent documentation reviews utilizing a dynamic, interactive query methodology to identify cases for review, track the results and outcomes of reviews, and monitor the success of their CDI program. Ongoing dual-coding and documentation audits within VitalAuditor will provide post “go-live” charge capture validation for compliance under ICD-10.
“We have a firm belief that complete and accurate documentation is the key to remediating risk under ICD-10, and chose to partner with VitalWare and DCBA because of their shared belief and unique combined strategy,” explained Pam Banchy, RN-BC, PMP, Chief Information Officer at Western Reserve Hospital. “VitalWare will help us identify where potential risk in our documentation may exist, and work to jump-start a new chart review process by conducting retrospective coding and documentation audits on at-risk claims through their VitalAuditor application on an ongoing basis,” Banchy added. “Initial findings were handed off to DCBA, enabling them to develop focused ICD-10 physician documentation education programs,” said Jill Hiner, VP of Finance and CFO at Western Reserve Hospital. “This will allow for the establishment of a successful, cost effective CDI program at Western Reserve utilizing VitalWare’s VitalCDI,” Hiner continued.
“Partnering with VitalWare, and utilizing their expert ICD-10 Coding and Auditing services, along with their tools, VitalAuditor and VitalCDI, will provide DCBA with the analytics needed to create a laser-focused physician documentation training program for Western Reserve and establish a successful CDI program that will take them through the ICD-10 transition and beyond,” commented Randall Guyton, Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer at DCBA.
“We are excited that Western Reserve recognizes that identifying true ICD-10 financial risk associated with ICD-10 must start with documentation and has chosen to partner with VitalWare and DCBA,” said Kerry Martin, President and CEO of VitalWare. “The expertise of DCBA’s professional services of providing laser-focused Physician Documentation Education combined with their successful track record of establishing succinct and cost effective CDI programs utilizing VitalWare’s data analytics and VitalCDI, will enable Western Reserve to educate their physicians in a personalized, concise manner and ensure a successful and smooth rollout of their CDI program. Western Reserve’s decision to select VitalWare’s VitalAuditor and VitalCDI to assist in dual-coding, documentation audits, and clinical documentation will provide ongoing financial and compliance benefits for their organization,” Martin added.
Founded by Dr. Robert S. Gold in 2002, DCBA helps medical facilities achieve an accurate representation of their patients’ illnesses and procedures through documentation in the medical record. Dr. Gold gained inspiration for his educational methods through years of experience as a physician and as a healthcare consultant. Dr. Gold has shared his extensive knowledge and educational methodology with the other consulting physicians, nurses and coders of DCBA. They have helped many hospitals institute successful clinical documentation improvement programs as well as having pointed out opportunities for education in documentation and coding practices found during medical record audits, both in the inpatient and outpatient arenas.
