SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- CTIA WIRELESS I.T. & Entertainment 2007 -- ACCESS CO., LTD., a global provider of advanced software technologies to the mobile and beyond-PC markets, today announced that it has joined the Unified Testing Initiative(TM) (UTI) as a Platinum member. The UTI is a cooperative effort formed by Sun Microsystems and mobile device manufacturers and operators Motorola, Nokia, Orange, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Vodafone Group and LG Electronics to develop common testing requirements for Java(TM) technology-based applications for mobile devices.
As a Platinum member, ACCESS will participate in setting the test criteria and program direction for the Java Verified(TM) Program (JVP), the industry accepted testing and signing program developed by the UTI. The JVP provides developers with a central facility for quickly and easily getting their Java Platform Micro Edition (Java ME) applications tested based on a level of quality set by the UTI, thereby helping to reduce the cost, complexity and time needed to bring their mobile Java technology-based applications to market. Applications which pass testing are digitally signed with the UTI certificate, making them eligible for the Java Powered(TM) logo and unrestricted access to additional phone capabilities, for a better consumer experience overall.
"ACCESS recognizes that the Java platform is a leading development environment for mobile applications," said Didier Diaz, senior vice president product strategy management for ACCESS. "The ACCESS Linux Platform(TM) is unique in offering Java technology as one of three environments developers can choose from, along with Garnet(TM) OS and native Linux.(R) OS. As the mobile industry moves towards the convergence of next generation services and devices, it will be increasingly important to promote industry standards that ensure the consistent performance of high quality content and applications. ACCESS is pleased to be a part of the UTI effort to develop such standards and promote the overall growth of the mobile application market."
"The Unified Testing Initiative provides an actionable forum for industry leaders to address application development challenges and to facilitate the safe and effective deployment of content to the mobile industry," said Simon Nicholson, director Client Software Group at Sun Microsystems and managing partner for the JVP. "The program continues to gain momentum with new members and companies utilizing the services. This success is a testament to the value of a broad industry collaboration that benefits everyone in the go-to-market chain. To date, we have processed over 13,000 applications from more than 3,400 registered developers. In addition to postproduction testing, the council is also focused on driving solutions earlier in the development phase. We welcome ACCESS, a global software leader, and the considerable ecosystem experience and perspective that they will bring to these efforts."
Developers interested in participating in the Java Verified Program can register at http://www.javaverified.com/, and select among the participating global testing providers to test their applications.
