Dell Dips Deeper into Retail With Staples Deal

Dell has inked another retail distribution agreement, this time with office-supply mega store Staples in the US.
About 1,400 Staple stores will sell Dell desktops, notebooks, printers, toner and ink beginning November 11. The first products to be stocked will be the Dell Inspiron 1721 and 1521 notebooks, Inspiron 530 desktops, Dell 948 and 926, and1320c laser printers, as well as a couple of LCD monitors.
Staples is the latest retail outlet for Dell, which in May announced it would break from the direct-sales model that made it famous by selling some of its wares in Wal-Mart Stores and Sam's Club. It has since announced similar deals with several retailers outside of the US, including Carphone Warehouse in the UK and Gome in China.
The moves are part of chief executive Michael Dell's plan to revitalize the company, which earlier this year lost the top PC market spot to rival Hewlett-Packard.
