TYNESIDE and Northumberland New Wine Network will be welcoming Ian Parkinson, leader of networks for the North of England, to a special evening celebration at St. Luke’s Church, Claremont Road, Newcastle, on October 31 (7.30pm). The Rev. Robert Ward, pastor of St. Luke’s, along with Rob Hawkins, pastor at Jesmond Methodist Church, were invited by New Wine to form the local network during the summer and an inaugural meeting was attended by the national leader, the Rev. John Coles.

Robert Ward explains: “New Wine was founded 10 years ago by Bishop David Pytches after his return from Latin America. During his time there he experienced encouraging signs of a Holy Spirit ministry, and on his return to England he began to teach the doctrine of the Holy Spirit from a charismatic perspective.” Since then the movement has grown with a series of Bible weeks and large- scale weekend events. Networks have been formed in many parts of the country, and the coming celebration and visit will enable other interested churches to become involved. “There will be a lunch for local church leaders in the afternoon, but eveyone is welcome at the evening celebration,” Robert Ward says.
