INTEROP Fall — Coyote Point Systems, Inc., the leader in Non-Stop, Affordable Application Availability(TM), announced the most ambitious release to date of the systems software for its Equalizer Series family of load balancing and acceleration appliances. New in Coyote Point’s Equalizer Series V8.0 are significant enhancements for Non-Stop Application Availability, Affordable Acceleration & Scalability and Administrator Friendliness, including server cluster surge protection, Akamai compatibility, Microsoft Web Outlook Access support, HTTP compression and several acceleration optimizations.

Primarily targeting the application availability, acceleration and ease of administration requirements of the small to midrange enterprise market, Coyote Point engineering team, led by Alpha Coyote Bill Kish, tightly focused Equalizer Series V8.0 enhancements on:

 — Non-Stop, Application Availability at levels of up to 99.999% uptime — Affordable Acceleration and Scalability for clusters of up to 512 servers with an unlimited capacity for virtualization — Administrator Friendliness so that the typical systems administrator — working at a small to medium-sized enterprise, (SMB/SME), university campus, government organization or any value-conscious IT group — can readily install, configure and maintain an Equalizer Series system using V8′s revamped graphical user interface

Coyote Point’s Equalizer Series is recognized as the industry’s value and performance leader for application load balancing and very high availability, intelligent application delivery / traffic management, application acceleration / compression, SSL encryption / offload, geoclustering / disaster recovery and virtualization / clustering. Coyote Point and its Equalizer Series have received Network Computing’s Well Connected Award, CRN’s Emerging Tech Vendor and Hot Product recognition and Information Security’s Product Excellence Award.

“Coyote Point Systems is the only load balancing system that worked for us, and we tested a few,” said Neil Ghuman, IT Manager for More Power Racing, an online dealer of high-end gear for cars, trucks and motorcycles. “Our customers are performance freaks, and we need our website to run reliably at top speed. We recommend Coyote Point’s Equalizer Series systems as the ideal non-stop front-end for companies that simply cannot afford to have their websites go down.”

All Equalizer V8 enhancements work across Coyote Point’s Equalizer Series family of load balancing systems as well as with the company’s Envoy geoclustering, XCEL SSL acceleration and new Express(TM) HTTP compression add-on modules. Equalizer V8 improves usability for server administrators and ensures fast deployment by system integrators and engineers.

“Equalizer has always offered a very strong feature set and high performance when compared to other vendors in the load balancing and traffic acceleration space, especially for the small to mid-size market segment,” said Bill Kish, Coyote Point’s Alpha Coyote. “Our challenge for Equalizer V8.0 was to refine and simplify the user experience and make advanced features, such as HTTP compression, function in an intuitive way. We believe that Equalizer Series V8.0 is clearly best in class in addressing the Small/Medium Enterprise’s needs for non-stop Web application availability, acceleration and ease of use.”

“SMEs want all the features, performance and reliability that the enterprise needs, but they can’t necessarily afford the budget, dedicated staff or extra cycles required to install, configure and maintain other vendors’ complex and expensive application delivery systems,” continued Kish. “Coyote Point, through experience, has learned that the complexity of our Equalizer Series technology must be presented so that it is easy to use, install, maintain, and most importantly is affordable. Our technology is then supported by a broad network of resellers and distributors worldwide that provide local support. Local partner support is then backed up by Coyote Point’s 24×7 capabilities.”

New enhancements in Equalizer Series V8 include:

Affordable Acceleration and Scalability

 — Accelerated Performance: Enhancements to improve performance by up to 100 percent include optimizing Layer 4/7 header performance and the new Express HTTP content compression card providing up to 5x faster downloads. — Faster SSL Acceleration: Provided by a next-generation XCEL II SSL accelerator card to equip any Equalizer Series “x50si” system with state-of- the-art SSL encryption, offload and acceleration. Both Xcel SSL accelerator and Express compression cards can be combined on the same platform. — Microsoft Outlook Web Access support: Equalizer’s SSL offloading now provides the ability to specify the insertion of an HTTPS header to work with applications such as Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) that normally will accept only HTTPS connections. — Web Performance Management via Akamai Compatibility: Coyote Point now enables Web Performance Management via complete compatibility with Akamai- powered Content Distribution Networks (CDN). Multiple client requests may be pipelined within a single connection, and each request may contain a cookie specifying a particular server in the cluster. Equalizer V8.0 can be enabled to open as many server connections as necessary to satisfy all pipelined requests.

Non-Stop Availability

 — Surge Protection for Servers/Clusters: To ensure that servers and clusters do not exceed their delivery capacity, an Equalizer parameter can be set to establish a hard upper limit on the number of connections that can be established to a cluster or server. — Server Down Flag: Alerts the Equalizer Series system to send a TCP reset packet to any client that has an open connection to a downed server. — Enhanced Images for Debugging: Eliminates the need to install custom debug versions of software to diagnose problems.

Administrator Friendliness

 — New Browser Interface: Now manages system date and time settings as well as Network Time Protocol (NTP) configuration. — Multiple Administrator Accounts: Fine-grained permissions, which is desirable in hosting environments and customer accounts with strict access policies. — Static Route Administration Interface: Makes it easier to configure complex routing rules via the GUI. — Improved Plotting Controls: Version 4.5p1 of OpenSSH is now included for improved plotting controls with controls for automatic and manual scaling on the performance report screen, so users can change the scaling from the same screen that displays the server or cluster graphs.

“Coyote Point has an impressive track record of delivering application load balancing, availability and acceleration for value-conscious customers,” said Tony Bourke, a network and server engineer based in New York City and chief blogger for Load Balancing Digest (lbdigest.org). “The company’s latest release of its Equalizer Series system software reaffirms that Coyote Point is the leader in application load balancing and acceleration for the small and midrange enterprise.”

Coyote Point’s Equalizer Series systems equipped with V8.0 are available now, and V8.0 is downloadable on demand by Coyote Point customers with a valid support contract.
