Dec. 16--OSAKA, Japan -- Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. said Thursday it has boosted its monthly plasma display panel production capacity to 150,000 units from 90,000 units, becoming the largest Japanese PDP producer.
The firm has expanded capacity to 100,000 units per month from 40,000 units at its second PDP plant in Ibaraki, Osaka Prefecture. It also produces a combined 50,000 units at the first Ibaraki PDP plant and another in Shanghai, China.
Matsushita also said it will open a new PDP plant in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture, in November next year to increase its total monthly PDP production capacity to 275,000 units in a bid to better compete with South Korea's Samsung group and LG Electronics Inc. that have led others in PDP production.
