Expand Networks Optimizes Department of the Treasury's Office of the Comptroller of the Currency's Wide Area Network

(MILCOM - Booth#534)--Expand Networks www.expand.com, a leading provider of application acceleration solutions over the wide area network (WAN), and recently positioned in the Gartner's Leaders Quadrant for WAN Optimization Controllers 2006, announced today that it has completed the rollout of Expand Accelerators-- ahead of schedule-- to over 120 locations in the Department of the Treasury's Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) www.occ.treas.gov to optimize the performance of the OCC Wide Area Network.
In 2006, the OCC concluded that network performance limitations caused by consolidation and the implementation of a distributed application would not be mitigated by bandwidth upgrades. This led the OCC team to identify a secure solution that could accelerate the OCC WAN as well as provide a solution for Common Internet File System (CIFS) acceleration to support their file server consolidation project.
Following a competition against Riverbed and Juniper Networks, the OCC selected Expand because it provided the greatest performance enhancements -- throughput and network response time -- while fulfilling Office of Management and Budget security mandates. Security is of critical importance for the OCC, making it essential that the solution comply with Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) required settings, including the use of SMB signing.
Utilizing the complete feature set of Expand Accelerator Operating System, the multi-service Compass Platform, the OCC is now achieving increased throughput of over 275% in network performance of HTTP (25X). Another key benefit of the Expand solution is the ability to set priorities for business critical applications using Expand's Quality of Service capability while complying with federal security requirements.
"The deployment of Expand Networks Accelerators ensures agency compliance with Federal security mandates while enhancing the ability of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to fulfill its Mission while saving taxpayer resources," said Howard Teicher, Vice President, Public Sector & Satellite Markets, Expand Networks. "WAN optimization that fulfills government security standards -- that's the Expand solution."
