Moonwalk Named ‘Outstanding Choice’ in Reviewed List of Past ‘Byte and Switch’ Top 10 Storage Startups to Watch
The inclusion of Moonwalk Inc., the Australian developer of all-inclusive data protection and management software, on a “Top 10 Storage Startups to Watch” list was rated an “outstanding choice” by editors of the storage networking website Byte in Switch in a recently published article.
The October 2007 review, “A Look at Past Top 10 Startups: Part 2,” by Mary Jander and James Rogers revisited companies who were included in an original “Top 10″ list six months ago to see if they have performed up to the promise that netted them their original inclusion. Each company was rated from 1 to 5 with Moonwalk scoring a “5,” or “outstanding choice,” for its merit on having originally been included among the top storage startups. The publication noted the company’s growing sales of its data migration software, inclusion of additional applications sets and new channel partnerships as reasons to support its high mark.
“It certainly wouldn’t have been much fun to have made Byte and Switch’s ‘Top 10 Startups to Watch’ only to have it be rated a mistake six months later, so I can definitely say that we are pleased that the editors felt they made an outstanding choice both then and now,” said Peter Harvey, CEO of Moonwalk. “We continue moving forward with sales and development of our core product and believe that by making it easier to manage data across a user’s environment — whether that be across the hall or across the globe — we are providing organizations with the tools they need to gain the upper hand on their ever-increasing data demands.”
Moonwalk’s stateless architecture requires no additional overhead and is completely transparent to users and applications, with no introduced points of potential failure and ensuring maximum performance. Extremely small-footprint agents, each with its own NFS client, are installed on enterprise servers to execute the policies as scheduled from a centralized management location. These agents are very light weight – for example, one megabyte for NSS, four megabytes for Windows – and are installed quickly and simply throughout the network. The agents can then stream the files directly between locations as instructed without any intervention or staging. The software is so non-disruptive, it can be operational in much less time than existing technologies.
Byte and Switch is an online publication and web portal that explores the storage networking market. It focuses on addressing the information needs of enterprise and service provider customers by covering storage networking from three unique angles: technology, finance, and people. The magazine covers how storage network technologies work for corporate IT buyers, but also reveals key storage networking investment opportunities, explains how service providers can make money from the technology, and gives credit to the movers and shakers who are making storage networking one of the most dynamic segments of the networking industry.
