GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms Announces High Port Density Fiber Gigabit Ethernet AdvancedMCs
Posted on: Thursday, 1 November 2007, 09:00 CDT
Continuing to expand the breadth and depth of the company's leading AdvancedTCA™ and MicroTCA™ solutions, GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms today announced the Telum™ GE-QLX/QSX Gigabit Ethernet AdvancedMC. Designed for any telecommunications, enterprise or military/aerospace application using an AdvancedTCA or MicroTCA platform with a requirement for additional Ethernet links and fiber media, the Telum GE-QLX offers 2- or 4-port 1000BaseLX Gigabit Ethernet support while the Telum GE-QSX offers 2- or 4-port 1000BaseSX Gigabit Ethernet support.
"This announcement reinforces our commitment to providing a portfolio of AdvancedMC modules that is unmatched in the industry," said Rubin Dhillon, Global Product Manager of Communications Product Management at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms. "The Telum GE-QLX and Telum GE-QSX are specifically designed to maximize system design flexibility and port density, provide the leading-edge performance of Gigabit Ethernet and deliver the maximum reliability through support for fiber optic communications. They are the perfect complement to our recently-announced MP-2000 and MP-3000 application-ready MicroTCA modular platforms."
Telum Gigabit Ethernet AMC modules are high density, low cost network interface cards that expand ATCA or MicroTCA network connectivity. The Telum family of Gigabit Ethernet AdvancedMC solutions now offers support for 10/100/1000BaseT, 1000BaseSX or 1000BaseLX.
The ability of the Telum GE-QSX and Telum GE-QLX to help system designers deliver superior performance derives from the two products' implementation of an x4 PCI Express bus, and from the inclusion of TCP CRC and segmentation offloading to reduce CPU utilization. Superior solution security is possible through the use of up to 4,096 integral VLANs, which allow not only traffic segregation but also the addition of QoS tags to packets for prioritization, while maximum reliability and uptime is delivered through support for an IPMI v1.5-compliant Module Management Controller subsystem.
Both hot-swappable, field-replaceable modules feature single width AMC.0 form factor, conform to the AMC.1 specification, and are available with either mid-size or full-size front panels. To simplify system integration, the Telum GE-QLX/QSX supports a comprehensive set of software drivers that are compatible with a Carrier Grade Linux operating system. Driver support for other operating systems may be optionally available.
