Sipex Introduces Photo Detector IC Optimized for Twin Laser Module
Posted on: Monday, 20 December 2004, 12:00 CST
MILPITAS, Calif., Dec. 20 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sipex Corporation , a leading supplier of high performance, analog integrated circuits (ICs), today announced the SP8053, a photo detector IC specially designed for DVD and CD writers that utilize twin laser modules. Integrating both high power DVD and CD laser diodes into a single module, twin laser modules enable lower system costs but require PDICs with a separate photo detector array for each wavelength to accommodate the physical offset between DVD and CD optical paths.
The SP8053 incorporates three gain modes for each array to support high-speed writing for a variety of DVD and CD media. The combination of dual array support with multiple gain modes enables lower system costs without sacrificing the advantages of multiple gain modes. The SP8053 features 20 photo detector elements, 130MHz RF and fast channel bandwidth and 10ns settling times.
SP8053 Key Features (typical)
-- Six selectable gain settings, three for each photo detector array
-- 130MHz bandwidth
-- 10ns output settling time
-- 200V/us minimum slew rate
-- Sleep mode
-- 1ns group delay
-- Differential outputs with 3.6v differential output swing
-- 16 pin clear OPLGA packaging, 5.0mm x 4.0mm
Pricing and Availability
The SP8053 is available now and is priced at $1.35 in 100,000 piece quantities. An evaluation board is also available to assist in the evaluation of the SP8053. Product briefs and additional information on the SP8053 and other Sipex product offerings may be found on the company web site at http://www.sipex.com/.
