Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server Receives the 2004 Frost & Sullivan Product Innovation Award

Frost & Sullivan's recent research offering, U.S. Digital Rights Management Markets, selected Adobe Systems Incorporated as the recipient of the 2004 Product Innovation Award for developing the Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server -- a product designed to meet the needs of organizations using portable document format (PDF) files to transmit valuable or sensitive content to authorized individuals.
Every year, Frost & Sullivan presents the Product Innovation Award to a company that has demonstrated excellence in new products and technologies within its industry. The recipient company has shown innovation by launching a broad line of emerging products and technologies.
For over 20 years, Adobe has been helping people and businesses communicate better through its innovative digital imaging, design and document technology platforms for consumers, creative professionals and enterprises. Its innovations in digital imaging, design and document solutions have set high standards for excellence in these markets and enabled millions of people to leverage the power of visual communications.
Underlying its document solutions is the Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF) technology. Adobe PDF and the ubiquitous Adobe Reader are the de facto standard for interactive viewing and sharing of documents and other content across computers and systems, regardless of platform or device.
Last June, building on the ubiquity of Adobe PDF and the over half-a-billion copies of Adobe Reader distributed to date, the company introduced Adobe LiveCycle server software. Adobe LiveCycle enables enterprises to deploy "document services" for bringing document-intensive processes online and integrated with back-end systems.
Adobe LiveCycle Policy server enables organizations to protect sensitive information that resides in electronic documents as opposed to secured enterprise systems. This is important for financial services organizations because of the strict regulatory requirements that are in place to preserve the confidentiality of customer and corporate financial data. The information security features provided by LiveCycle Policy Server travel with the electronic document no matter where it travels -- online, offline, or even outside the network.
"The development of Adobe LiveCycle Policy Server is the right product at the right time," says Jarad Carleton, DRM Industry Analyst. "There are numerous organizations operating in regulated environments that need to guarantee that sensitive content can be controlled and monitored. LiveCycle Policy Server has the potential to help companies as they move toward regulatory compliance in several different industries and markets in the U.S. and abroad."
LiveCycle Policy Server can expect to see positive market traction after institutions in regulated industries begin to understand the ability of this technology to prove that a company has its infrastructure in place and that it can ensure customer privacy as well as prevent content from falling beyond the control of the content owner.
Adobe rarely fails to disappoint with the release of new technology, and LiveCycle Policy Server certainly appears to address a pent up need for the protection and continued control of PDF files for the life of the content.
