Veteran television executive and producer Robert Sorcher has been named chief content officer for Cartoon Network, it was announced today by Stuart Snyder, executive vice president and chief operating officer for Turner Broadcasting System Inc.'s Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media Group.

Sorcher will be responsible for driving the network's overall content development strategy, including original series, acquisitions, long form and special events. Along with managing the team of content executives, he will also oversee production and Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, California. Beginning in January, Sorcher will be based in Los Angeles and will report to Snyder.

"Rob is one of the most well-respected and admired content executives in the industry," said Snyder. "His creative vision and business acumen have raised the bar wherever he has worked. It is precisely Rob's breadth of experience and entrepreneurial drive that made him the ideal choice to lead the charge for Cartoon Network's content strategy."

Sorcher is presently executive vice president of programming and production for AMC Network, where he has overseen program development and supervised the scheduling of the network and on-air presentation since 2002. He has also served as executive producer for AMC's original programming and is credited with leading the network to tremendous ratings growth and expanding its original programming slate to include the successful series Sunday Morning Shootout, hosted by Peter Bart and Peter Guber, the award-winning Broken Trail, starring Robert Duvall and Thomas Haden Church, and the critically-acclaimed series Mad Men and Hustle.

"I am proud of my accomplishments at AMC, and grateful to the entire team," said Sorcher. "AMC is now successfully positioned for the future with quality programs like Mad Men and the upcoming Breaking Bad. I am energized by the potential of Cartoon Network and excited by this new challenge."

Prior to joining AMC Network, Sorcher served as executive vice president and general manager for the USA Network and executive vice president of programming for the FOX Family Channel.

Earlier in his career, Sorcher worked at Cartoon Network as senior vice president and then executive vice president overseeing the network's creative direction and strategy and managing CartoonNetwork.com.

Sorcher began his career as a successful advertising and creative executive, working with such agencies as Grey Advertising, Griffin Bacal/Sunbow Productions and Benton & Bowles, where he supervised campaigns for ABC-TV, Warner Bros. and Hasbro.

Sorcher graduated cum laude from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology.
