Next Inning Technology Research (http://www.nextinning.com), a subscription service focused on semiconductor and technology stocks, announced it has published a special report on virtualization, updating outlooks for VMWare (NYSE: VMW), EMC (NYSE: EMC), Citrix Systems (Nasdaq: CTXS), and Dell (Nasdaq: DELL).

Earnings season is when Editor Paul McWilliams is at his best. In his weekly earnings previews, McWilliams advised subscribers to buy SiRF and Zoran, both of which gained over 20% after announcing stellar quarters, and to sell RF Micro Devices and Teradyne before those stocks dropped 10% to 20% from pre-earnings highs. His preview for the week of November 5th is now available by signing up for his 21-day free trial:

In his report on virtualization, McWilliams wrote: “To a great extent, the current trend towards virtualization is addressing how we want to work rather than thinking incrementally about what a new faster server or larger storage network can accomplish. At the core, it’s simply a different kind of design thinking. In other words, rather than focusing on what this server or that storage system can do, by starting with how users want to work and interact, it can partition or group computing, storage, and data resources to support tasks. In doing so, it not only improves the productivity of users, it optimizes the efficiency of IT investments in ways that will allow them to be more universally viewed as assets rather than as necessary costs of doing business…”

McWilliams also looks at these topics:

— Does McWilliams expect virtualization to impact the economy far beyond the narrow tech sector currently seeing the benefits of the technology?

— Based on EMC’s partial ownership of VMWare, which stock represents the most favorable balance of risk and potential reward?

— Are Citrix and Dell warranted in making dilutive acquisitions of virtualization firms?

— Generally speaking, are virtualization stocks worth the steep valuations Wall Street is awarding them?

Founded in September 2002, Next Inning’s model portfolio has returned 336% since its inception versus 118% for the Nasdaq.
