SAN JOSE, Calif., Nov. 8 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Micrel Inc., , an industry leader in analog, high bandwidth communications and Ethernet IC solutions, today announced that the Company has been named one of Forbes magazines' top 200 Best Small Companies for 2007. The magazine issues an annual report (Oct. 29th, 2007 edition) that lists the top 200 Best Small Companies with annual revenue of $5 million to $750 million and share prices above $5 as of Oct. 1, 2007. According to Forbes, selection is based upon a firm's long term financial performance in areas such as sales and net profit growth over 12-month and five-year periods, as well as return on equity.
"We are pleased to have been named to Forbes 200 Best Small Companies," stated Ray Zinn, President and CEO, Micrel. "Despite the cyclicality of the global semiconductor market, Micrel has grown revenue annually in 24 years of its 28 year existence. Through 2006, Micrel's ten year compound annual revenue growth rate was 15 percent compared to 8 percent for the analog portion of the semiconductor industry. Micrel has been profitable every year except one since its founding in 1978 and has sustained above industry average gross margins since going public in 1994."
The Company's excellent financial performance produces strong cash flows, a significant portion of which is returned to shareholders through the repurchase of common stock and dividend payment. Micrel has repurchased approximately 20 percent of its outstanding shares over the past five years and is currently the smallest semiconductor company in the industry to be paying a dividend to its shareholders.
