Gemstar-TV Guide Signs IPG License Agreement With So-Net Entertainment Corporation, Owner of a Leading Broadcast Web Portal in Japan

Gemstar-TV Guide International, Inc. (NASDAQ: GMST), a leading media, entertainment and technology company, has signed a multi-year interactive program guide (IPG) license agreement with So-net Entertainment Corporation (“So-net”), for its TV program navigation and online video portal Web site in Japan, TV ohkoku (“TV Kingdom” in Japanese), which features Gemstar’s G-GUIDE IPG. Specific terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

So-net was formed by Sony Corporation, Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. and Sony Finance International, Inc. in 1995 in Japan. So-net operates two leading businesses in Japan; a connection business and portal business. So-net launched TV ohkoku, in June 2006 to help navigate TV information, and promote distribution of TV and TV-related content via the Internet.

Interactive Program Guide, Inc., Gemstar-TV Guide’s joint venture with DENTSU INC. and Tokyo News Services Limited in Japan, worked with So-net to develop a syndicated version of G-GUIDE, Gemstar-TV Guide’s IPG service in Japan available to its users of the TV ohkoku site, which was released on Nov. 1, 2007.

Akitaka Nishimura, president, Gemstar Multimedia Limited in Japan said, “We are very pleased that So-net has selected G-GUIDE for their innovative broadband video distribution portal Web site. Given the abilities and success of So-net, this is clearly a strategically important deal for us, and it further signifies the value of our G-GUIDE in Japan. We are excited to work with So-net and IPG, Inc. to continue to expand the reach of G-GUIDE on the Internet.”
