Hitachi Life Sciences Introduces LaChromUltra(TM)
Posted on: Monday, 12 November 2007, 09:00 CST
Hitachi High Technologies America, Life Sciences Division today introduced LaChromUltra™, a new ultra high-speed liquid chromatograph delivering improved sensitivity and resolution plus a 90% increase in analysis speed compared to conventional HPLC. This flexible, next generation liquid chromatography system with 60 MPa (8700 psi) pressure capacity maximizes laboratory efficiency by allowing customers to choose whether to take full advantage of the latest ≤2.0 m particle size column technology or enjoy outstanding performance with conventional HPLC columns.
Further increasing LaChromUltra's performance is a low instrument system volume for minimum peak dispersion, an industry-low 0.005% autosampler carryover, and 100Hz data collection frequency providing maximum data integrity when measuring ultra-narrow peaks common in high speed liquid chromatography. Unique to LaChromUltra is the Advance Gradient function that eliminates delay volume effects during gradient analysis by synchronizing the sample injection timing with the gradient delay -- resulting in increased chromatographic performance and efficiency. The Advance Gradient function also allows Hitachi to match the delay volume effects of competitor LC systems making it easy to match system performance when transferring methods. Another feature exclusive to LaChromUltra is Advanced Electronic Pulsation Isolation and Compensation (A-EPIC), with four pressure sensors and a constant feedback mechanism A-EPIC provides maximum solvent flow consistency reducing pulsation effects and improving retention time and gradient precision.
Additional functionalities include a unique, Hand-Tight column fitting system that allows for easy method switching, the Full Sequence Download function that reduces autosampler cycle time to as little as 30 seconds, and an easy-to-use method conversion program making it simple to convert conventional HPLC methods to Ultra High-Speed methods.
LaChromUltra is controlled through EZChrom Chromatography Data System (CDS) software and is easily scalable to client/server configurations. Hitachi High Technologies, Inc. and Waters Corporation have also announced their intent to develop a software interface allowing LaChromUltra control by Water's Chromatographic Data Station software Empower2.
