National Survey Finds 87 Percent of Internet Users Spend at Least Seven Hours a Week Managing E-Mail and Social Networking Accounts

Posted on: Wednesday, 14 November 2007, 09:00 CST

BOULDER, Colo., Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- According to a new national third-party survey(1) commissioned by the developers of Fuser.com, 87 percent of Internet users spend a minimum of seven hours a week managing their online communications. Fuser.com, a free, innovative online tool that enables Internet users to consolidate their e-mail and social networking accounts into a single online inbox, conducted the survey to examine the proliferation of online communication mediums like e-mail and social networking and how that proliferation is impacting users' digital lifestyles.

(Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20071114/LAW089LOGO) Major findings from the survey include: -- 79 percent of Internet users surveyed have two or more e-mail accounts while also maintaining at least one social networking account. -- 92 percent of 18-21 year-olds surveyed have two or more e-mail accounts while also maintaining at least one social networking account. -- 43 percent of Internet users surveyed belong to at least two social networking sites. -- 66 percent of Internet users surveyed spend ten or more hours a week managing their online communications. -- 82 percent of Internet users surveyed said they would use a free online tool to check e-mail and social networking accounts in one place.

"This recent survey validates what we all know to be true -- that each of us spends a significant amount of time and energy managing multiple e-mail and social networking accounts," said Jeff Herman, president of Fuser. "The irony is that the majority of these types of communication mediums were developed to make communications easier and more productive, yet many Internet users are feeling burdened by the task of managing their multiple accounts."

Fuser.com enables Internet users to consolidate their e-mail and social networking accounts into a single online inbox. By providing a secure virtual command center for their Internet communications -- including Yahoo!(R), Gmail(R), MySpace(R), Facebook(R), non-web e-mail accounts and many more -- Fuser.com helps Internet users simplify their digital communications and make the most of their online time. Fuser.com is a free tool and besides an Internet connection, requires only a PC running Windows and either Internet Explorer or Firefox, or a Mac running OS X and either Safari or Firefox.

After a successful debut in late September, Fuser.com released a revised version of the tool last week. In addition to improved speed and performance, Fuser also added support for Earthlink, .Mac and Juno e-mail accounts.
