Americom to Supply AT&T U-Verse TV With International Programming

SES Americom, a satellite company, and AT&T, a communications services provider, have announced an agreement to supply AT&T U-verse TV with international programming via SES Americom's IP-PRIME platform.
IP-PRIME receives and encodes video from any source, formats the content and distributes it to any media platform. The process takes place at IP- PRIME's super headend facility in Vernon Valley, where content is encoded into the MPEG-4 video standard used in IP to optimize the picture quality of each program while requiring only half the bandwidth of programs in the older MPEG-2 standard. Programs are then uplinked to the IP-PRIME satellites, which in turn will deliver the content to AT&T video super hub offices for distribution to AT&T U-verse customers.
Rob Thun, senior vice president of programming at AT&T, said: "The AT&T U-verse internet protocol platform allows us to deliver unparalleled consumer choice, and through agreements such as that with IP- PRIME, we can capitalize on these advantages to provide our customers with the best international programming across all three screens."
