SGI’s Prism Designed for Visual Applications

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIF. – SGI has announced the Silicon Graphics Prism, a Linux OS-based visual computer product line.

Silicon Graphics Prism is built on a foundation of SGI NUMAflex shared-memory architecture. The system combines the Intel Itanium 2 processors, the Linux operating system and standardsbased graphics accelerators from ATI.

On top of it all is SGI’s array of visual computing products and a host of OpenGL visualization software development tools. These include SGI’s cross-platform OpenGL Performer and OpenGL Volumizer application programming interfaces (APIs).

It can scale up to 16 graphics pipelines and 256 processors. The computer includes Transitive Corp’s QuickTransit product, which allows software applications compiled for one processor and operating system to run on another processor and operating system without any source code or binary changes.

Pricing starts at US$30,000.
