Userplane Partners With Network and Cable TV Media Companies to Deliver Enhanced Online Social Networking and Messaging Services

Posted on: Tuesday, 27 November 2007, 09:00 CST

Userplane (http://www.userplane.com), the premier social application platform and a wholly owned subsidiary of AOL, today announced deals with network and cable television media partners to bring Userplane's leading social networking and community applications to their online destinations.

New broadcast partners Channel 4 (UK), The CW, FUEL TV and IFC have used Userplane™ customizable communication tools, such as Webchat, Minichat and Webmessenger to further develop their online communities and increase the reach of their global fan-base by giving viewers a new interactive way to enjoy their favorite shows.

"The integration of real time messaging applications allows media companies to create virtual water coolers where viewers can engage other fans of their favorite shows in real time," said Michael Jones, CEO of Userplane and Senior Vice President of AOL. "Userplane's suite of applications allows media companies to turn any Web site into content-centric social networks, fostering true interaction among fans of popular brands."

Userplane offers customizable communication tools, such as live IM and chat that can be added to any site for free. More than 180,000 online communities have deployed Userplane applications -- from social-networking communities to dating sites to blogs to news sites, making it the world's most widely used Web-based communication platform.

Userplane's award-winning Webchat solution is a feature-rich, multilingual Adobe® Flash® application that enables real-time text messaging and voice/video communication. Easily integrated and fully scalable, Userplane Webchat 2 allows community, dating, corporate and collaborative websites to rapidly deploy centrally-hosted chat rooms.

Minichat is an embeddable tool that provides a preview pane of live chat activity taking place within Userplane Webchat. Minichat features a simple chat output pane, configurable to display either a single line of text or an entire conversation block. Fully customizable, Minichat allows visitors to immediately see the live conversation and join a chat directly from the preview pane without having to launch a separate application or to enter a chat room.

Webmessenger 2 is built on Userplane's Presence system -- a simple but robust back-end technology that allows sites to display and leverage online user "presence" anywhere. The new Flash-based Userlist lets users easily manage buddies, find online users, and launch IM's.
