Internet Initiative Japan Inc. (IIJ, NASDAQ: IIJI, TSE1: 3774), one of Japan’s leading Internet access and comprehensive network solutions providers, and Net Care, Inc., the IIJ Group contact center and network operation outsourcing company, today announced the opening of the new Shinsaibashi Data Center, which will begin operations in July 2008.

Corporate IT investment is growing, and both large and medium-sized enterprises start to actively utilize data centers for information systems outsourcing. As data center usage has increased in recent years, so has the need for remote backup sites outside of Tokyo, which can be used for disaster recovery and business continuation plans. The demand for data center services has been especially strong in the Kansai area.

The Shinsaibashi Data Center is IIJ’s fourteenth (*), and it was opened in Osaka, one of the highest demand centers in the Kansai region. The center is based on an outsourcing-on-demand concept, and provides a wide range of services such as system operation and monitoring, in addition to basic collocation services. The data center provides a platform on which other IIJ group services can be run, providing a total network solution, from network systems construction to systems outsourcing. Osaka is a hub of economic activity, and the convenient location within the city limits combined with earthquake-resistant structures that absorb shocks, make this an ideal service for either outsourcing or for use as a disaster recovery site.

To meet the growing demand for data center services, the IIJ Group plans to expand the first Yokohama Data Center in April 2008, ahead of the opening of the Shinsaibashi data center. We will continue to provide data center solutions in ideal locations and provide total support for all corporate information systems.
