Dell to Bundle Google Products With Its Computers
Dell has announced that it will sell Google Search Appliance and Google Mini to corporate customers through its direct corporate and public sales organizations.
The two products, manufactured by Google, allow businesses to securely search for information on their networks protected by a firewall. The Google Search Appliance, designed for large businesses, is priced at $30,000, while the Google Mini, designed for small enterprises, is priced at $1,995. Both the products will be covered by Google warranty and support services.
Since 2006, Dell’s OEM industry solutions group has worked with Google on Dell PowerEdge 2950 to develop the Google Search Appliance (GSA). The OEM division of Dell also supports Google’s enterprise division with an end-to-end appliance program providing sales and technical expertise, worldwide regulatory compliance, and order fulfillment.
Separately, IBM also announced the release of a new version its free enterprise search tool, OmniFind, which it co-developed with Yahoo. The company claimed that OmniFind offers more personalized and customized search features for online and enterprise data.
Google’s products compete with OmniFind and Microsoft’s recently launched Search Server 2008.
