McAfee Partners With Cox Communications to Provide Comprehensive Security Suite That Protects High-Speed Internet Customers
Posted on: Monday, 3 December 2007, 09:00 CST
ATLANTA, and SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- McAfee, Inc. today announced a partnership with Cox Communications, the third-largest U.S. cable provider, to deliver the Cox Security Suite powered by McAfee(R) to all Cox High Speed Internet customers.
"We recognize that safe and secure high-speed Internet access is critical to our customers, and we pride ourselves on offering powerful PC and online protection from viruses, hackers and spyware at no extra cost," said Ray Starbird, director of product development for Cox. "Our new security offering powered by McAfee will enable consumers to do everything from surfing the Web to shopping online with much greater peace of mind."
Under the terms of the agreement, the new Cox Security Suite powered by McAfee will launch in early 2008, and will help protect consumers from a wide variety of computer and Internet threats with McAfee VirusScan(R) Plus, McAfee Privacy Service and McAfee SiteAdvisor(TM).
-- McAfee VirusScan Plus detects, blocks and removes viruses, Trojans, spyware and other potentially unwanted programs. It includes a two-way firewall, behavioral protection that monitors for behaviors that may signal virus, spyware or hacker activity, rootkit detection, a script scanner that blocks malicious scripts while a consumer visits a compromised Web site, and a file shredder. McAfee VirusScan Plus also has a protection without interference feature that lets consumers enjoy videos, online games, and other online entertainment, or run a PowerPoint presentation or other business applications without interruption when they are in full screen mode. It works by minimizing computing resources while intelligently deferring scheduled security tasks, including program updates and scans, until a more appropriate time. -- McAfee Privacy Service with parental controls enables parents to protect their children from inappropriate Web sites, limits the time they may access the Internet and blocks out images that may not be appropriate. -- McAfee SiteAdvisor guards against malicious Web sites that feature adware, spam, phishing attacks, and other scams. The award-winning safe search technology adds intuitive red, yellow, or green ratings to sites and search results based on proprietary tests of more than 95% of the trafficked Web.
McAfee VirusScan Plus, Privacy Service, and SiteAdvisor automatically deliver new features, enhancements, upgrades, and patches transparently and automatically for as long as the consumer maintains an active subscription.
"Cox Communications is not only a leader in their field, they have demonstrated a strong commitment to customer education," said Todd Gebhart, senior vice president and general manager, McAfee Consumer, Mobile and Small Business. "The recently released National Cyber Security Alliance online security study showed more than 90 percent of consumers think they are protected against online threats, while less than half actually have sufficient protection. Our partnership with Cox will expand security education, while protecting their customers to help them enjoy the Internet the way it was designed to be used."
