Research and Markets (http://www.researchandmarkets.com/reports/c76147) has announced the addition of Wi-Fi Phone in China: The First Step to FMC to their offering.
In 2007, interest in phones that combine cellular and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service using Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) technology has grown at a fever pitch. The WLAN technology provides wireless broadband access, allowing end-users who have Wi-Fi-enabled devices to wirelessly access the Internet when in a Wi-Fi hotspot. This ability makes up for some of the disadvantages of cellular technology and provides customers with lower-cost voice and high-speed data service.
In order to be successful in this market, wireless carriers and WLAN providers need to understand the attitudes and requirements that end-users have regarding WLAN/cellular service and handsets.
To gauge public opinion on WLAN/cellular dual-mode phones and on which features and benefits are of most interest to current cellular phone subscribers, the author conducted a telephone survey in March 2007. This survey asked questions about subscriber opinions on WLAN/cellular technology, as well as background questions on the adoption of base technology supporting WLAN/cellular, such as cellphones, broadband, and WLAN.
The report is divided into three sections. The first looks at respondent demographics; the second examines patterns of use among cellphone, PHS, and WLAN users; the third examines attitudes and acceptance of WLAN/cellular dual-mode phones, how much consumers are willing to pay for them, and the reasons respondents were not interested in the new technology.
