Posted on: Thursday, 6 January 2005, 09:00 CST

LAS VEGAS, 2005 International CES, Jan. 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Broadcom Corporation , a leading provider of highly integrated semiconductor solutions enabling broadband communications, today announced that it is demonstrating a variety of new consumer electronics semiconductors, software and reference platforms designed specifically for digital video, wireless and mobile communications products, at the International Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, January 6 - 9, 2005. The demonstrations of Broadcom's innovative semiconductor solutions for the digital home this week will give consumers a preview of the new wave of digital products, enabled by Broadcom chips -- products that will soon be available on retail shelves over the next several months.

The following is a glimpse of some of the new Broadcom(R) technologies that will be highlighted in the company's demonstration suite at CES, in Meeting Room #35768, located in South Hall 4:

Digital Video Technology:

* Advanced video compression (AVC) technology: Broadcom's new AVC

technology enables consumers to receive more programs over current

operators' networks. In addition to cable, satellite and IP

set-top-box reference designs with SD and HD AVC, Broadcom will be

demonstrating high definition DVD solutions based on advanced

compression.

* Digital television (DTV) technology: Broadcom will be demonstrating

our latest reference designs for the emerging DTV market.

* Advanced communication technology: Broadcom will be demonstrating

next-generation communication technologies for the cable TV and

xDSL markets.

Wireless Networking:

* Easier, more secure wireless networking: Broadcom's SecureEasy

Setup(TM) technology, just announced with support from HP and Linksys,

allows consumers to easily set up a new Wi-Fi(R) wireless network (or

add devices to an existing wireless network) with the push of a

button.

Voice-over-IP:

* Consumer VoIP solutions: Broadcom's Wi-Fi phone allows consumers to

simply and securely add a phone to a wireless network. Additionally,

the company is featuring its standalone and integrated VoIP terminal

adapter (TA) solutions with BroadVoice(TM) technology.

Mobile Communications:

* Mobile multimedia: Broadcom's advanced mobile imaging, multimedia and

3D graphics solution optimized for use in cell phones and other mobile

devices.

* Quad-band EDGE technology: Improved web surfing with EDGE provides

3 times faster average speed than GPRS.

Bluetooth(R):

* Broadcom's market-leading Blutonium(R) solutions, including WIDCOMM

BTW(R), the industry's most widely-deployed Bluetooth software, will

be demonstrated running on PCs and mobile phones. The demos will also

feature new ease-of-use capabilities enabled by a partnership with

BVRP Software that dramatically improve and simplify the Bluetooth

experience for users of mobile devices.

* Advanced multimedia capabilities: High-quality stereo audio streaming

to wireless headsets from notebook computers, MP3 players, PDAs and

other devices is now possible with Broadcom technology, allowing users

to listen to their favorite audio files, connected without the use of

wires.

* The new very low power BCM2045 Bluetooth solution: The industry's

first 0.13u Bluetooth solution with Enhanced Data Rate (EDR), the new

Bluetooth 2.0 standard that triples the speed of Bluetooth for

advanced multimedia, wireless printing and other applications.

NASoC (networked attached storage-on-a-chip):

* Networked Attached Storage On a Chip for the home and small business:

Broadcom's single-chip storage processor allows consumers to archive

and access digital music, photos and data files easily and

efficiently, featuring high-end storage features at a fraction of the

cost.
