Broadwing Communications and Utah Interlinx Bring Communications Services Choice to St. George Metro Area

Posted on: Monday, 10 January 2005, 09:00 CST

Broadwing Communications, LLC, a consolidated subsidiary of Broadwing Corporation (NASDAQ:BWNG), today announced that Utah Interlinx, a competitive local access provider in St. George, Utah, has selected Broadwing as its primary carrier of voice and data services for enterprise, education and government customers.

Utah Interlinx is building a high speed fiber optic network throughout Washington County, providing local fiber backbone redundancy to ensure consistently reliable, top quality communications service for the area. Interlinx has connected their metro fiber network to Broadwing's nationwide network for the delivery of voice, video and data services, including Ethernet Internet Protocol applications and Point-to-Point data services.

"Interlinx and Broadwing are working together to provide Washington County with a high performance networking solution that will provide much needed network redundancy for the area," said Interlinx President Gene Morris. "We chose Broadwing Communications because their state-of-the-art long-haul network is highly reliable and protocol agnostic, allowing our customers to connect to the network via virtually any type of access option."

"We are pleased to be working with Interlinx to bring redundant, high quality communications services to St. George area businesses, educational institutions and government entities," stated Michael Stewart, Broadwing's president of Enterprise Sales. "Together our two companies offer a compelling competitive alternative to the incumbent for transport of voice, data and other IP-related applications."

Interlinx Communications LLC (dba Utah Interlinx), a Competitive Access Provider of fiber optic network infrastructure and wholesale transport services primarily to rural markets, has recently deployed over 200 miles of high-capacity, high-bandwidth fiber optic cable in the Southwestern Utah region. Using "state-of-the-art" Cisco optical transport Multiservice Provisioning Platform (MSPP), the Interlinx metro network provides traditional TDM, enhanced metro Ethernet and virtual LAN services to the area's important points of communications presence, including ILEC central offices; CLEC PoPs; Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and data center locations; wireless providers and cable company head ends; as well as multi-tenant facilities and business/manufacturing parks. Interlinx is dedicated to providing a diverse, redundant, reliable fiber access alternative in order to mitigate telecommunications outages and to enable third-party service providers to "ride" into/out of these rural areas on a tier 1 quality open-access network.
