Power equipment supplier Hitachi Power Systems America, a wholly owned subsidiary of Hitachi America, has been awarded a blanket contract to supply selective catalytic reduction catalyst for American Electric Power's SCR fleet.
Hitachi Power Systems will design, engineer and supply catalyst for the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) fleet at eight of AEP's coal-fired electric generating stations, starting with deliveries in 2008 through 2011.
The contract will result in approximately 7,500 cubic meters of catalyst being installed for over 10,400MW of generation capacity during the contract period.
Hitachi said that its plate-type catalyst technology has been operating successfully in almost 700 units worldwide, with over 190 coal-fired applications. It claims that AEP will benefit from the use of the technology, which achieves high nitrogen oxides reduction and low sulfur dioxide oxidation while oxidizing mercury.
In addition to the catalyst technology, AEP will have access to Hitachi's boiler and SCR System experience and expertise.
