TI Introduces Low-Power, Single-Supply, Wideband Amplifier For Video Line Driver Applications

Posted on: Wednesday, 12 January 2005, 09:00 CST

DALLAS, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) today announced a unity-gain stable, high-speed voltage feedback amplifier from the company's Burr-Brown product line. The OPA830 ensures low distortion operation by high-gain bandwidth (110MHz) and high slew rate (600V/usec). This low-power, low-cost amplifier has excellent video line driver specifications and is ideal for a wide-range of other applications including ADC input buffers, consumer electronics and test instrumentation. (See http://www.ti.com/sc05019 .)

"The OPA830 features an exceptional speed versus quiescent power ratio which gives an advantage over competitive products offering rail-to-rail output in a wideband voltage feedback design," said Michael Steffes, strategic marketing manager of TI's high-speed signal processing group. "Operating on less than half the supply current of earlier wideband rail-to-rail output devices, the OPA830 meets or improves the SFDR and noise performance of those earlier devices."

Using only 3.9mA supply current, trimmed at 25C, the OPA830 provides excellent bandwidth and output capability. Gain of +2V/V bandwidth exceeds 100MHz with typical 0.1dB flatness beyond 25MHz. The output swings to within 25mV of either supply while driving a 150-ohm load. The input range extends below the negative supply and to within 1.7V of the positive supply. The device is intended to operate on a single +2.8V to +11V supply, but can also be used on bipolar +/-1.4V to +/-5.5V supplies. Single supply operation matches up well to emerging low-cost ADCs such as the THS1040, 10-bit, 40MSPS converter.

Available Today

The OPA830 is part of a six-member product family available in an industry-standard SO-8 package or an ultra-small SOT23-5 version that is Pb-Free and Green. The device is priced at $0.75 in 1,000 piece quantities (suggested resale pricing) and is available from TI and its authorized distributors. Another single channel version, the OPA832, is also available today for fixed-gain of 2V/V line driver applications. Dual versions for these devices (OPA2830, OPA2832) are currently sampling with introduction scheduled for 2Q05.

TI offers analog engineers a wide-ranging support infrastructure that includes training and seminars, design tools and utilities, technical documentation, evaluation modules, an online KnowledgeBase, a product information hotline and a comprehensive offering of samples that ship within 24 hours of request.
