TecAsia to Open Second Store, Sell Dell Products
DELL Inc, the world’s second largest personal computer (PC) maker, will sell its products in TecAsia outlets to increase its market share in Malaysia.
TecAsia, a subsidiary of home-grown computer maker FTEC Resources Bhd, will open its second retail outlet in Low Yat Plaza, Kuala Lumpur, in a week.
The new store will have a floor space of about 27,000 sq ft, approximately three times the size of its first store in Kota Kinabalu.
Dell’s consumer sales director for Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Malaysia, Evan Williams, said having TecAsia as a partner “is a good fit for the Dell brand”.
TecAsia’s new outlet, which is likely to become the country’s largest information and communications technology (ICT) concept store, will house four major types of ICT products under various brands.
Also known as the 4Cs, they are computers, communications, consumer electronics and content.
FTEC has invested some RM20 million in the new outlet and plans to open more stores, FTEC managing director B.K. Tang said.
“We are still evaluating the options we have. We are likely to open our Penang outlet by the middle of next year, and another in Petaling Jaya by the third quarter,” Tang added.
After selling PCs directly to consumers for more than two decades, Dell has begun to add retail distributors this year, part of its plans to expand its reach to consumers.
Dell lost its PC market share lead to Hewlett-Packard Co last year.
