Cellnet+Hunt Leads Utility Market Expansion of Successful Two-Way Networks and Advanced Metering Deployments in 2007

Posted on: Thursday, 20 December 2007, 18:00 CST

ATLANTA, Dec. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Cellnet+Hunt, the leading provider of fixed-networks for advanced metering and smart grid applications, announced a number of important milestones in both its managed service and owner-operated network deployments during 2007.

The company estimates 2007 shipments of advanced metering endpoints exceeded 2.4 million. Additionally, Cellnet+Hunt added nine new customers to the more than 500 utilities currently using its solutions. Select customer highlights include:

* Ameren expanded its RF network and added an additional 500,000 meters in its Illinois service territory since beginning a project expansion in 2005. * Austin Energy moved forward with a two-way RF network without losing the benefits of the one-way meter points currently deployed in its system. * Colorado Springs Utilities now has advanced metering endpoints at over 270,000 of its 500,000 electric, water and gas meters, making it one of the largest combination utility, fixed-network deployments in the country. * GreyStone Power Corporation began deployment of an advanced metering network to the more than 130,000 meters in its service territory. * FortisAlberta completed Phase I of its systems acceptance of the TS2 power line carrier network. Once system acceptance is complete, the utility intends to deploy an advanced two-way network to more than 400,000 meters. * United Illuminating expanded its use of fixed-network advanced metering data to support customer energy-efficiency programs while garnering peer recognition with a UPN award for its programs. * Cellnet+Hunt DA/SCADA communications network business grew by over 40 percent in 2007. Over 200 utilities continue to further expand the coverage of their two-way RF networks, allowing the extension of DA/SCADA capabilities as well as the addition of advanced metering and other smart grid applications.

"Cellnet+Hunt saw a number of new and expanded advanced metering deployments in 2007," said David Slump, CEO of Cellnet+Hunt. "We continue to enhance our products to meet changing market requirements surrounding smart metering and smart grid initiatives. As demonstrated at Austin Energy, we have worked to ensure that our customers can take advantage of new network capabilities while leveraging installed infrastructure."

The implementation of two-way networks serves as the foundation utilities need to deliver advanced metering, demand response, intelligent grid applications, and consumer focused personal energy management solutions. Cellnet+Hunt is working with utilities across the country to make the most efficient use of their network to optimize both operational and financial objectives.
